The Internship in Spiritual Direction is a two-year program that begins in the fall of even-numbered calendar years. Classes run from September to May, with one full day in person each semester and weekly Wednesday night classes online. We invite you to apply by completing the following steps.
- Take some time in prayer and reflection to discern your desire to participate in the Internship.
- Complete the application form found below
- Write a 5-6 page, double-spaced essay description of yourself, including:
- Why do you wish to receive training in spiritual direction? What attracts you to it? What relevance do you think it will have for your life and work in the future?
- Important events in your life, meaningful experiences in ministry to others, relationships with significant people, and the impact of these on your personal and spiritual development, including your sense of the Divine and your experience of prayer, contemplation, and or meditation.
- The spiritual direction you have received and how it has influenced your development.
- Your personal strengths and challenges, and your manner of relating with other persons, as these may bear upon your learning and practice of spiritual direction.
- Completed Essays can be mailed to: The Spiritual Life Center, 77 Sherman St, Hartford, CT 06105.
- Include a $80.00 non-refundable application fee. A background check is part of the admissions process.
- Request three letters of reference from: a personal friend, a colleague in ministry/work, and someone who knows you professionally or academically. (A form for these individuals to fill out can be found here).
PLEASE NOTE: Interviews will be scheduled when completed applications and references have been received. Applications received after the class is full will be considered for the subsequent Internship.
