In 1521, a soldier named Ignatius of Loyola lay recovering from a battle wound and began to notice something. Some daydreams left him restless and empty; others left him quiet and full. He came to see that paying attention to those inner movements could show him where his life was meant to go. Out of that noticing, over many years, grew one of the richest traditions in the contemplative world.

This workshop is an introduction to that way of paying attention. Together we will explore the heart of Ignatian spirituality, an attentiveness to our inner life, the discernment of what draws us toward life and what pulls us away, and a time-tested approach to the decisions that shape us.

You will not just hear about these practices; you will try them through guided exercises and small group conversation. And though they grew from deep within the Catholic tradition, their wisdom reaches well beyond it. People of many traditions, and those who claim none, have found in them a way of listening more closely to their own lives. No experience is needed, only a willingness to pay attention.
