Soul Matters : A Spiritual Companions Journey Group

February - May

Please see the description for specific dates and facilitators.

Please note that this is currently only available to Spiritual Directors/Companions

Soul Matters is a once-a-month 4-session program for SLC Spiritual Companions that offers the opportunity to explore, deepen, and nurture our spirituality in community with other Companions. Each month, participants will explore a different aspect of spiritual life, such as "Cultivating Compassion," "Practicing Resilience,"  & "Story."  Using resources provided by the SLC and Soul Matters, we will independently engage in spiritual exercises and reflect on evocative questions and then come together for a monthly session to share our experience, insights, and questions. Unlike Spiritual Companioning groups, there is no assigned presenter each month; we all share our experiences so that we can learn from each other and grow together. The practices of deep listening and spiritual discernment will be central to the monthly gatherings.

Soul Matters Reflections:

I have found my experience with Soul Matters to be very introspective. Through the readings, videos, and book offerings, I was able to choose what touched me, what spoke to me.

Through this process, I traveled inward each month to a deeper place of discovery. Some of these areas were my 50th wedding anniversary, my increasing number of years on this Earth, and a longing for what I need to repair. These issues and situations are part of who I am. Soul matters brought them back to the forefront to notice, to sit with, and to address.

 - Lisa Hukins

Soul Matters has jump-started my spiritual journey.  It’s not a spiritual practice as much as an invitation to experience, in the everyday rhythms of life, the joy, reverence, and mystery of being in relationship with the Divine. And the opportunity to hear and respond to the experiences of the other participants in my group deepened the impact of the program.  The old adage "you don't know what you don't know"  is certainly applicable here;  I had no idea that such an accessible, engaging program could have such a profound impact on my own spiritual journey and my calling as a spiritual companion.

 - Marilyn Sponzo

I was initially reticent to join this group, which is my usual stance with something new. Yet I was curious and decided to follow a new path with curiosity as my guide. What remains with me is that Soul Matters provided the material and the space for me (us) to be present to one another to explore aspects of spirit and life together. It's a great vehicle for members of the Spiritual Life Center to use to grow together.
