Dr. Janet Fuller

Jan Fuller spent her early life in the Middle East, living through four wars before she was 23 and returned to the US. She considers Beirut, Lebanon her home and is fluent in Arabic. Her career as a university chaplain has served students, faculty, and staff over 40 years at Yale, Hollins, and Elon, with faculty appointments in each setting. At Elon, as a part of her Chaplaincy, she built a multifaith center, program, and staff for the purpose of offering the university population skills to build bridges of respect, honor, and friendship.

Jan currently serves as co-Director for the Master of Arts in Chaplaincy at Hartford International University--one of the few institutions where students can study for chaplaincy in interreligious community--where she designs curriculum, creates assessments, and teaches chaplains. Jan is an Episcopal priest with great love and admiration for others’ ways of being faithful in the

world. She has long been an advocate for interfaith relationships and lifestyle.



A poet and preacher, Jan is the author of Blessings for your Students: Prayers for Interfaith Communities in Higher Education. She is also working on a volume about higher education

chaplaincy. In her spare time, Jan enjoys travel, fine needlework, playing guitar, walking the neighborhood, and reading memoir and fiction. She does not like fireworks!

Jan is married to Jan Therien, who is also a health care chaplain, and they live in Roanoke, Virginia, with their two dogs, Peabody and Buster.
