Becoming a Trauma Wise Spiritual Director:
When the world is overwhelming and words are not enough.
2:00 Pm - 5:00 Pm Thursday 10/23
At The Spiritual Life Center in the West end of Hartford with Jayne Dean.
Zoom option available
Trauma is inherent in the human condition. We have all experienced events that have overwhelmed our capacity to cope. Trauma is not an event, but a process. It is what happens in us as a result of what happened to us. This workshop will offer ways of working with the impact, residue, and effects of overwhelming experiences on the nervous system within the context of a spiritual direction relationship.
The goal of this workshop is to demystify trauma and reduce the fear that often arises when working with trauma symptoms. This Training will combine didactic information and experiential learning to enhance the Director's confidence in recognizing and working with the effects of trauma.
Participants will:
- Be able to describe two visual models or maps of the nervous system and identify behavioral indicators of nervous system dysregulation.
- Be able to explain the four threats to the nervous system and use this information in offering trauma-supported care to clients.
- Apply Techniques that promote improved nervous system regulation in themselves and with their Spiritual Direction clients.
