Be a Volunteer

There are many ways you can volunteer with the Spiritual Life Center!

Contact the Spiritual Life Center at (860) 243-2374 or email us at board@spiritlifectr.org for more information on these and other volunteer opportunities.

Board of Directors

Board membership is an opportunity for individuals to oversee and further the mission of the Spiritual Life Center.  Board members are responsible for developing strategic and annual plans, setting policy and measuring success, lending expertise to the growth and development of the Center and identifying funding opportunities for the Center and its programs.  Each Board member serves a three-year term and serves on at least one committee according to experience and expertise.  Standing committees include Finance, Mission Effectiveness, Public Relations, Development (currently in formation), and Living Spirit Awards.  Following are descriptions of the Board Committees.  The Board meets six times each year and also has an annual retreat in February.  If you are interested in becoming a Board member, please contact Joanne White, President at board@spiritlifectr.org.

Finance Committee

This committee meets every other month to help oversee the financial management and operations of the Spiritual Life Center.  Members monitor the Center’s financial performance against annual budgets, supervise investment accounts, and report regularly to the Board of Directors about the financial status of the Center and any recommendations for the future.  This committee is chaired by the Treasurer of the Board.

Mission Effectiveness Committee

This committee meets every other month to monitor the fidelity of the Center to its mission.  Members review the Mission Statement annually, assist with new Board member selection and orientation, make recommendations regarding program possibilities and adjunct staff, and evaluate existing programs.  This committee is chaired by the staff Pastoral Discernment Leader.

Marketing and Public Relations Committee

This committee meets every other month to increase public awareness of the Center and promote programs offered through the Center.  Members help publicize programs and fundraising efforts, develop and maintain materials that enhance the public image of the Center, oversee publication of the Center’s newsletter and monitor and offer recommendations on the Center’s website.

Living Spirit Awards Committee

The Living Spirit Awards Committee meets in the months prior to the Living Spirit Awards Recognition Event that has traditionally been a dinner and silent auction in April/May.  Members help with event planning, publicity, and collecting donations and sponsorships.  Members also set up and decorate the space for the event and assist staff during the event.  This committee is chaired by the staff Events and Programs Cultivation Leader.

Open Circle Volunteers

The Open Circle Volunteers are a community within the larger community of the Spiritual Life Center.  They meet for a monthly morning of reflection, sharing, prayer and love every second Wednesday of the month from September to June.  They also assist the Center’s office staff with mailings about eight times a year.  The Open Circle Volunteers are organized and facilitated by Mary Blume.
